Respecting this exceptional craftsmanship, Maison Pierre Frey took the initiative to transfer Le Manach's looms to its workshops in northern France, including one dating back to 1850, a rare find. This hand loom represents one of the last remaining in France, with fewer than 50 in operation and fewer than 20 hand weavers.
The mechanism and gestures come to life in a dance of ancestral tradition, through the hands of Olivier Joannen, appointed Chevalier dans l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the Ministry of Culture. With pride, Olivier Joannen weaves and shapes three silk velvets, producing one meter per day in 65 centimeters wide: Tigre velvet, Léopard velvet, and Le Manach carpet velvet.
Pauline Desmullier, a young woman passionate about traditional crafts, joined Olivier Joannen in 2022 to learn his technique and the subtleties of his craft in a lengthy process that will span several years.
Determined to preserve this Artisan craft, Maison Pierre Frey seeks to celebrate these three precious fabrics, handwoven since 1922, which embody the essence of Le Manach velvets.
