Christian Astuguevieille

A teacher by training, Christian Astuguevieille has made a name for himself over the past few decades as artistic director of fashion houses and perfumers such as Molinard, Rochas, Nina Ricci, or Comme des Garçons, for whom he creates some sixty perfumes. But it is above all for the objects and furniture developed around his own imagination that he is recognized and exhibited in museums and galleries around the world. Unclassifiable artist and a lover of great freedom, Christian Astuguevieille loves to confuse. Since the 1980s, he has been developing his sensory and dreamlike work by drawing his inspiration from the symbols and rites of ancient civilizations in Asia and Oceania. He draws inspiration from Japanese aesthetics to wrap everyday objects with rope or create his imaginary writing. The artist's leitmotiv is to play with codes and periods.
