Since ancient times, the giraffe has fascinated the West with its large legs and long neck. In 1826, Mehemet Ali decided to offer one to England. However, the giraffe did not cope well with the journey and it died on arrival in London. The animal's coat then inspired fabric designers in search of exoticism, like that of the cheetah, tiger or zebra.
