For Design Miami/, Pierre Frey is taking part in "Maison royales", carte blanche for Harry Nuriev for the Mobilier national

For its first edition in Paris, the Design Miami/ fair is joining forces with the Mobilier national to present "Maisons royales", a carte blanche for designer Harry Nuriev that pays tribute to the national manufactures and the institution's collections.

Harry Nuriev

An architect, designer and multidisciplinary artist based between New York and Paris, Harry Nuriev wields the art of transformism with agility. He feeds off the past and draws his inspiration from the many historical references to create an immersive and innovative world, full of dreams and poetry.
The immersive installation he has created at the Galerie des Gobelins is based on the age-old tapestry skills of the Mobilier National..

History meets innovation

Steeped in both history and innovation, Harry Nuriev uses artificial intelligence to create an ancient plant motif while incorporating modern elements.

The motifs are trompe l'œil printed on velvet by Pierre Frey, like greenery covering the columns of a neo-classical gazebo.

Like climbing stems of woven foliage, this "gazebo 2.0" celebrates the textile art of yesterday and today, and engages in a dialogue with the two 17th-century tapestries, "Royal Houses", that surround it ("Versailles or the month of April" and "Saint Germain en Laye or the month of May").

This project was produced by Pierre Frey using the ancient method of layout printing, which is possible when the use of the shapes is known before the printing or weaving operation.

Used from the 18th century onwards for parasols, aumônières and even curtains, this method ensures perfect placement of the motifs on any material. This printing method saved on pigments, materials and time, and was already an anti-waste practice at the time.

Harry Nuriev's installation at the Galerie des Gobelins is a perfect illustration of the mission of the Mobilier National, which has been promoting the French decorative arts since the 17th century, and that of Pierre Frey, which puts its expertise at the service of contemporary creation. The installation invites visitors to take a timeless journey.
