Shanghai, China

CHRIS SHAO STUDIO

The latest addition to Shanghai's gastronomic scene, Ortensia features a Franco-Japanese décor designed by Chris Shao Studio. Combining Parisian sophistication with the timeless elegance of Japanese aesthetics, this unusual establishment is steeped in the historic charm of the city's Shikumen architecture.

Directly inspired by the eponymous plant, the immersive atmosphere of the place deploys a wealth of textures and colours that celebrate lush nature. On the first floor, the patio alcoves are adorned with Maison Pierre Frey AU BORD DU LAC wallpaper, whose verdant motif is printed on a subtly metallic straw with woody tones, creating a perfect harmony between modernity and tradition. The ground floor lounge, a jewel box of refinement, offers a mix of retro details where the TALMONT jacquard and its herringbone pattern decorate the seating area. An exceptional address, Ortensia is a masterful fusion of classic and contemporary design, providing an unforgettable backdrop to a culinary experience that is both daring and delicate.
