Jean Lurçat (1892-1966) developed a strong attraction for the applied arts throughout his career. He is one ot the prominent artists of the twentieth century. Painter, poet, ceramist, friend of the néo-cubist artists, of the surrealists and of the revolutionaries writers and artists, his role has been significant in the history of the modern tapestry. His work is constituted of over thousand tapestry cartoons. Lurcat, with key subjects as animals, fantastic creatures, nature and travels, created monumental tapestries with bright colours.
